Western Seaboard, 1913

lyrics

Francis the old lonesome lighthouse keeper
Had always been a gentle sleeper
Tonight he wakes to the code that comes tapping
And bears his eyes upon the story mapping

The Great Wave has emerged from deepest sea
It's coming for us now, it comes for peasants as it comes for gentry

In clemency or callousness he swears a vow of silence
As he sees it roar on the horizon
With one movement of his hand the trouble is dismissed
He brings the town under fortress of darkness

The Great Wave has emerged from deepest sea
It's coming for us now, it comes for peasants as it comes for gentry

All of the people submerged in distant slumber
Dreams of inconsequence and wonder
The light is banished from their quiet coastal town
And in the morning their town is gone

The sun comes up all along the Western Seaboard
And glistens on the water, the surface that betrays the score

Beyond Olden Acre Ireland

Down the valley and through the forest,
Every sound follows and surrounds us
And at every turn a maker.
Deep in the fields the men of labour,
At every bud the bee and trader,
The tune carried by each passing stranger
Beyond this olden acre.
